ECLOSION Contemporary Fine Craft Exhibition at Art Mûr gallery Montreal, October 7, 2024

Emerging Creations in Fine Craft. Presented at Art Mûr Gallery from Saturday, October 19th to Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, this exhibition’s first edition brings together more than thirty pieces, highlighting the singular craft practices of seventeen graduates from Montreal’s eight fine craft schools. The vernissage will take place in the presence of the artists on Saturday, October 19, from 2pm to 5pm. The genesis of a recurring event This exhibition is the result of a desire by Montreal’s fine craft schools, the Institut des métiers d’art – Cégep du Vieux Montréal and the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec (CMAQ) to show the diversity and quality of the proposals offered by the new generation of fine craft artists: from works of pure expression to utilitarian objects. Through a rigorous selection process carried out by a multidisciplinary jury of industry professionals, the ECLOSION exhibition is the first iteration of what we want to be a recurring event. This exhibition stands out for its focus on emerging creators, offering a rare opportunity to discover bold, contemporary works by artists with a strong educational background. Beyond the caliber of the works presented, ECLOSION showcases the artists’ own reflections and preoccupations. Resolutely anchored in our times, the works offer a variety of materialities shared between three predominant themes: society, the environment and the being. Craftsmanship is an act of resistance. It represents a stand taken against the fast-paced world in which we live and gives priority to the long-term dedication to the mastery of traditional and contemporary techniques, to creative experimentation and to valuing the quality and provenance of materials. The pieces presented are an encounter between concept, material, design and know-how.

They synthesize the individual aesthetic reflections of seventeen contemporary fine craft artists : Justine Bonnin, Dorothée Bouliane, Marie Bourguignon, Shawn Conway, Agathe Dessaux, Paul Guidera, Joanie Guillemet, Juliette Huneau, Jeanne Létourneau, Sophie Manessiez, Noémie Marchand, Magali Robidaire, Laura Sasseville, Marielle Saucier, Sécrétion-Féline, Gianhi Tran and Thomas Vieren. This exhibition is presented by Montreal’s eight fine craft schools. These innovative creative spaces guarantee the quality, continuity and influence of new generations of artists and craftspeople.

Atelier Textile, Centre de céramique Bonsecours, Centre des métiers du cuir de Montréal, Centre des textiles contemporains de Montréal, École d’ébénisterie d’art de Montréal, École de joaillerie de Montréal, École-atelier Lutherie-Guitare Bruand, and Espace VERRE, have put together this exhibition, in collaboration with the Institut des métiers d’art – Cégep du Vieux Montréal, the Conseil des Métiers d’art du Québec and Galerie CRÉA.
