From September 12 through October 25, 2024, the Espace VERRE gallery will present L’ÉTRANGE COULEUR DE LA TRANSPARENCE, a collective exhibition reuniting the works of 12 glass artists: Dorothée Bouliane, Florentin Chaumet, Jean-Philippe Dumais, Carole Frève, Renaud Gagné Turbide, Alexi Garneau, Samwell Guertin, Amélie Girard, Angela Keating, Charlie Larouche Potvin, Carole Pilon and Jean-Simon Trottier. In this exhibition, the artists explore the multiple dimensions of transparency, an intrinsic quality of glass which is often misperceived as simple, revealing a fascinating and sometimes disturbing complexity.

The exhibition proposes a reflection on the way that transparency, beyond its evident appearance, can evoke emotions, stir up an introspection on taboo subjects, or better still question our perception of reality. Each artist brings a unique perspective, enriching this collective exhibition with diverse techniques and visions.

The exhibited works use the limpidity of the material to address themes as diverse as death, love, sadness, the environmental impact of overconsumption, as well as the challenges of discerning fact from fiction in a world where the truth is often blurred. While some of the works explore complex and dark themes, others embody resilience and hope, exploring the ephemeral and elusive beauty of transparency, revealing moments of purity and the subtle passage of time.

Each of the works invites viewers to look beyond the surface and contemplate the mysterious hue of transparency.

Espace VERRE is a glass creativity centre located at 1200 Mill Street in Montreal. The gallery is open from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, as well as the last Sunday of each month from noon to 5 pm. Admission is free of charge.
