From September 15 through October 30, 2022, the Espace VERRE gallery will present the exhibition Traces featuring the glassworks of Élisabeth Marier. Artist, poet and experienced glass artist, Élisabeth finds her inspiration from the mysterious logic of the cosmos and the quantum randomness of the universe. Her glass tableaus merge colors, textures and poetry, all on flat surfaces. On Thursday, September 15 at 5:30 p.m., the artist will give a 1 hour-long lecture on her artistic work in Espace VERRE’s conference room (third floor). This will be followed by the exhibition’s opening, at 6:30 p.m.

Élisabeth is fascinated by the land she inhabits and its horizons. The color palette of the New Brunswick landscape is wide-ranging; from the Baie des Chaleurs to a sky as far as the eye can see, passing through the colorfulness of the native flora. After leaving the city, color became more obvious to her. Elisabeth works with transparent glass as a solid form watercolor with the limitation of the rigid structure of the sheet glass. She developed special tools to master the process. The works of this exhibition approach the notion of balance differently and revolve around the concept of research between two axes: verticality and horizontality. There is the past and the present, in view of what was and what is in the process of being. They are the traces of her journey, from imagination to realization. The artist’s creation conveys thoughts and transcends visual experience.

Élisabeth Marier lives and works in Caraquet, New Brunswick. After received a bachelor’s degree in visual arts from the Université de Laval in 1982, she became interested in the arts which led to her discovering glass and enrolling in advanced in hot glasswork workshops at Espace VERRE and Sheridan College. She completed numerous artist residencies, including two in Banff in 2015 and 2019, where she worked on various projects. In 2018, Élisabeth published a collection of poetry and drawings Tu es là.  She received many scholarships and has taught several classes at Espace VERRE, throughout the years. Furthermore, Élisabeth is a prolific artist, whose poetic and colorful universe touches the public. Traces is her nineth solo exhibition.
