From September 18 to October 26, 2025, the Espace VERRE gallery will present Matières secondes, créations premières, a group exhibition featuring the works of nine glass artists from Quebec: Dorothée Bouliane, Florentin Chaumet, Jean-Philippe Dumais, Roxane Dupuis, David Frigon-Lavoie, Jennifer Gaumer, Geneviève Grenier, Samwell Guertin, and Michèle Lapointe. Together, they were summoned to explore a poetic and socially engaged theme: recycled, reclaimed, and repurposed glass.

In a world increasingly concerned with overconsumption and resource waste, this exhibition offers an artistic reflection on the potential for material rebirth. Each artwork is the result of a transformation process: fragments of industrial glass, studio scraps, imperfect works, or parts from previous works are reinterpreted to become the raw material of a new creation.

Glass, often seen as fragile or rigid, reveals its ability to be reborn, to metamorphose, and to carry multiple narratives. The artists were invited to document the steps of their creative process, allowing the public to follow the material’s journey—from its raw state to its final form—and to better understand the technical gestures and aesthetic choices behind each transformation.

Matières secondes, créations premières celebrates the intelligence of craftsmanship, the beauty of reusing, and the symbolic power of glass as a medium of memory, awareness, and renewal. The exhibition embraces an eco-conscious approach and highlights contemporary glassmaking expertise while questioning our relationship to material, objects, and the environment
