Montréal, January 21, 2016 – From February 18 to    May 13, 2016, the Galerie Espace VERRE will present OCCULTIS NATURAE, the solo exhibition of artist Nadine Busque’s new series of printed glass and fabric works. The opening ceremony, in the presence of the artist, will be on Wednesday, February 17 at 6:30 p.m.

With OCCULTIS NATURAE, Busque takes us on a voyage to the bottom of the sea, where organisms and microorganisms are revealed by the magnified vision of the artist.  She uses their colours and forms as patterns, while stacking, dissecting and combining them.  The artist explains her inspiration: ”I like to imagine the multitude possibilities of such an encounter, just like a child likes to contextualize the same characters in countless scenarios, to discover the many variations and operational modes with renewed awe.” By means of the fissures imposed to the material, she reveals and conceals them to keep and preserve some secretive zones, such as is the case of the deep sea. Busque likes to play with the ambivalence between the revealed and the hidden. By means of their nuanced reflection and repetitiveness, she uses the printing and image transfer techniques to serigraph the images on glass and fabric. Thus, she covers theses images with a variation of clear, engraved and opaque glass. With all of this series of artistic works, she has captured fragments of the abyss that we are invited to discover.

In 2001, Nadine Busque obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). In 2004, she received a fine crafts, glass option DEC (Diploma of College Studies) offered by Espace VERRE in collaboration with the Institut des métiers d’art of the Cégep du Vieux Montréal. Furthermore, that same year, she was selected as the Houdé-Mendel bursary’s laureate. Among her many bursaries and awards, she received the 2007 Prix de l’arrondissement de la Cité, for works of art, of the city of Québec. Ultimately, this is not Busque’s first exhibition; in fact she has participated in at least 30 exhibitions, including at least 6 solos, in Canada and abroad. Presently, she resides in Québec city where she pursues her artistic research at the Engramme Collective.

Why not take advantage of our participation to the Nuit blanche, on February 27 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., to come see the exhibition. There will be commented glass blowing and flame working demonstrations. Admission is free of charge.
